Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday, where they defeated Mali to lift the continental trophy for the fifth consecutive time.

The governor’s message, contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed and made available to newsmen on Monday in Katsina, noted that Radda described the historic feat as a shining example of excellence, unity, and the relentless spirit of Nigerian athletes, especially women, who continue to rewrite history across global sports platforms.

The statement read, “The Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has now won the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025, five straight times.

“This latest victory not only cements Nigeria’s position as Africa’s powerhouse in women’s basketball, but it also proves what is possible when passion, discipline, and hard work meet unwavering national support.”

He noted that the wave of pride and celebration sweeping across the country, coming shortly after the Super Falcons’ remarkable performance at the 2024 WAFCON, is a powerful reminder of how sports can unite a nation and inspire generations.

Radda called on both the government and the private sector to not just celebrate D’Tigress, but to invest in their future so that they can soar even higher and continue raising Nigeria’s flag on the global stage.

He added, “Your five-year unbeaten run is commendable, as it shows your commitment, dedication, hard work, and love for the game. You’ve inspired millions, broken barriers, and reminded us all of what Nigerian women can achieve when given the platform and the opportunity.”

Radda also praised the coaching crew, the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), and all the loyal fans who have supported the team through every tournament and championship.

“Congratulations, D’Tigress. Nigeria is proud of you. Katsina is proud of you. This is more than just a sporting victory; it’s a national achievement. You’ve brought joy, hope, and pride to every corner of our country. Welcome home, champions,” he concluded.
